Hi everyone! I’m Yan, the creator of Marta.
Over the past few years, I got a lot of messages from people all around the world, happily telling me they have finally found their ideal file manager for Mac. I have no words to express my delight with your continuous support. ❤️
It’s been quite a while since I announced the last release. During this time, there were no visible signs of development, leading some users to wonder if Marta reached its sunset. So today, I want to clear things up.
First and foremost, I’m committed to continuing the development of Marta. I had to take a break for personal reasons, but now I’m back with renewed energy and plenty of new ideas. Not only there will be new features, but the application will become even more polished and accessible. Rest assured, Marta will remain the ultimate tool for power users.
While I strive to make Marta the most performant and robust file manager for Mac, doing so in practice requires a lot of time. As I mentioned in the very first blog post, once Marta graduates from beta, it will prompt users to purchase a license. My goal isn’t to get rich from selling the file manager, but I do need some funding to keep development active. Regardless, you’ll always be able to download current versions of Marta from the archive and continue using them for free.
If you’d like to support development of Marta today, consider becoming a Patron. As a small bonus, anyone who contributes $15 or more in total on Patreon will receive a perpetual license.
Marta 0.8.2
I didn’t come with empty hands. Today, I’m happy to announce the release of Marta 0.8.2!
While I have a myriad of new features and improvements planned, this release focuses on fixing bugs that have bothered Marta users over the years.
I’ve refactored path handling throughout the file manager – the new implementation is much safer and consistent. The refactoring also addressed various issues with symbolic paths inside archives.
Marta now understands compound file extensions, such as .tar.gz
.
The New File and New Folder dialogs got path completion support. It’s the first step of refining dialog windows across the application.
Previously, I uploaded pre-release versions to the issue tracker. Now, Marta allows you to switch to the Early Access Program (EAP) update channel, so you can try new features before anyone else. Check out the Update Settings action.
These are just a few highlights of the changes. You can find the complete list in the changelog.
The latest version is available on the download page. If you’re already using Marta, run the Check for Updates action, and it will download and install the new version for you.
Stay hydrated during this hot summer.
I hope you have a great experience with Marta! 🦊
